What About The Children?
THANKS to the following for providing meals to our Grandfamilies!
How It Works
Grandparents struggling to raise their grandchildren, wheter they have custody or not, are referred to the program by agency, friend, or self-referral.
Experts in Randolph County, W.Va. topics are provided to help them navigate legal, social, school, health, and other systems in our county. Each expert is here as a volunteer, not as an official representative of any organization.
Why We Do It
Discussion Groups for grandparents held bimonthly on topics over a 6- month period tailored to the needs of grandfamilies:
´ Health literacy/self-care
´Healthy lifestyles/managing stress
´ Legal issues
´Navigating the school system
´Family response to addiction
Over 2.5 million grandparents are responsible for their grandchildren
For every 1 child in the foster care system, 25 are being raised by grandparents or relatives outside of the system
Grandfamilies save tax payers more then $4 billion by keeping kids out of foster care
WV ranks 2nd in the % of grandparents responsible for their grandchildren.
In Addition, A Warm Meal!
